are nocturnal. That means that they are awake during the night. The dance is just right for

them!

On a sheet of paper, draw three columns. Label the first column nocturnal and draw a

moon next to the word. Then list the animals in the poem that are nocturnal. At the top

of the second column, write the word diurnal and draw a sun next to it. List the animals

in the poem that are diurnal. At the top of the third column, write the word crepuscular

and draw a horizontal line with half of a sun showing above the line. List the animals in

the poem that are crepuscular. You might need to use an encyclopedia or the Internet to

search for the answers.

If you have an old T-shirt, you can use markers to copy your chart or draw a picture of your

favorite animal from the story and make a unique shirt for yourself.

Hold your own “moonlit” dance – With a parent’s (or

other adult’s) permission, visit www.YouTube.com to

find the dance called The Jitterbug. Can you do that

dance with your reading partner?

With a parent’s (or other adult’s permission) visit

www.YouTube.com to find the Square Dance.

With your partner, practice do-si-do with arms

crossed at chest, face your partner, each goes

right, keep facing straight ahead as you cross

behind each other back to back and around to

face each other again.

Charades – Choose a character in the poem

and act out their part. Have your reading

partner guess who you are imitating.
